Join us as we welcome award-winning author, renowned screenplay writer and founder of Baby Rhino Rescue, Helena Kriel, who will be talking about her latest book, The Year of Facing Fire, on Saturday, 9 May at 10am.
Helena has been nominated for Playwright of the Year, written extensively for television, and even won the Steven Spielberg Diane Thomas award for her first screenplay, Virtuouso, which set her up to be an A-list writer in Hollywood. Although Helena does regard South Africa as her home, she spends her time between Los Angeles and SA, as she teaches screenwriting at Spalding University’s MFA in the Writing Program, and takes writers and seekers on creative journeys into India.
The Year of Facing Fire, Helena’s most recent book, is a brilliant memoir which follows her journey as a writer (for the hit movie, Kama Sutra) and her family’s struggle when her beloved Brother, Evan, is diagnosed with HIV/Aids.
This book has been described as “A triumph! This brilliant memoir has made life richer, deeper, wider” – Sena Jeter Naslund, Author of Ahab’s Wife.
Take a deeper dive into Helena’s book and her journey as an award-winning screenwriter, lecturer, author and founder of NPO, Baby Rhino Rescue, whilst enjoying a harvest table lunch and all the relaxation the lodge has to offer. Tickets are R200pp.
